Located in rural Virginia, this project began with a structure rooted in utility and reimagined as an inviting, highly functional living space layered with character. The goal was to honor the barn’s original form while introducing a sense of warmth and livability aligned with how the clients gather, unwind, and host. Volume and scale drove many of the design decisions. We leaned into the soaring ceilings and exposed structure, allowing those elements to remain the focal point while softer materials and thoughtful detailing brought balance and approachability. Natural light plays a central role, shifting the experience of the space throughout the day. What was once purely utilitarian now supports a more personal rhythm of life, equally suited for quiet mornings and hosting family and friends.
